Destination Wedding- From NY to Boulder

Updated: Jan 29

New York to Boulder, back to her roots for a very special day! Mara & Bobby were the absolute sweetest couple! They both live in New York involved in the performing arts and their wedding was the most perfect mix of family, friends & love.

This wedding was a venue day. The ceremony location was at Sunrise Amphitheater at Flagstaff Mountain in Boulder. It was a beautiful hilltop venue with the most amazing view of Boulder. As it’s a public area you can rent the space for a very reasonable price. The ceremony took place in the middle of an outdoor amphitheater, perfect for this couple! The bride grew up in Boulder and it was so special for her to have her wedding ceremony in a nostalgic place of her youth! The couple and family were able to capture some stunning photos atop this beautiful spot.

Here are my three tips for planning a two venue wedding day:

  • Communicate: Make sure you communicate clearly to guests where to go for the ceremony and where to go for reception prior. Make sure to include directions or links on your wedding website for guests.

  • Timeline: Work plenty of time into your day for travel, if it's a 20 minute drive, assume buffer time for traffic or slower travelers. You may choose to have an earlier ceremony to accommodate that.

  • Travel: make sure to have lots of parking spots at both locations. If you are asking guests to travel twice they likely won’t uber/lyft so make sure they can park. Or offer a shuttle service!

The couple chose to have the bride’s sister officiate the wedding, she did a wonderful job and made the ceremony so meaningful. She was followed by a series of heartfelt family readings. This couple opted to not have a classic wedding party, they instead focused on involving their close family in their day and processional. They ended the ceremony by marrying themselves! Which is fully legal in the state of Colorado! With the beautiful violin playing as they recessed it was a beautiful ceremony.

After the ceremony guests drove to The Farmette in Lyons for the reception. Here guests enjoyed appetizers and dinner from one of our favorites, Mountain Crust! To keep with their love of performance they chose to have a brazilian musical group for cocktail hour! The guests loved the live instruments and singing!

The couple wanted a very free and casual reception that guests could spend their time interacting and see old friends and family. To do that we took away a formal dinner seating and allowed guests to naturally flow to the food truck when they wanted! We strayed away from formal first dances or cake cutting to allow them to choose what felt natural in the moment. The couple also opted for no decor! They chose to enhance the beauty of the venue and Colorado and keep it simple! This was super helpful as they planned their out of state wedding, and let everyone focus on each other instead of things.

Love, family & friends were the most important thing to them that day, as theatrical as they might be in their careers, this day was not a show, it was a genuine and real expression of their love for each other, and it was truly inspirational.

"To be 100% honest, we initially only contacted coordinators because it was required by our venue. I'm SO glad we did though. After working with Stacie and Katie, I can't imagine trying to do all of that work ourselves. It was one of the best decisions we made for our wedding.

Stacie was great from the very beginning--super professional, organized, and very timely with communication. She offered great ideas and advice that made our planning process so much easier and less stressful.

For our wedding she assigned us to her associate Katie, who we can only describe as an all-star. My wife produces events in NYC, and she was ready to offer Katie a job on the spot because of how fantastic she was.

They thought of every detail and kept records of everything we needed to make the wedding function smoothly. If you can't tell, I can't recommend them highly enough. Total 10/10." - Bobby
